The Warm Homes Loan
is on its way.
Government-backed lower-interest loans for solar panels, batteries and heat pumps, announced under the Warm Homes Plan. Lenders are being signed up now, and the government expects loans to open to the public in autumn 2026, subject to final approvals. Nothing can be applied for today, and anyone who tells you otherwise is ahead of the scheme itself.
The shape of the scheme, from the official rules
Everything below comes from the government's June 2026 Scheme Rules and GOV.UK, checked 3 August 2026. Details can change before launch, and we will keep this page honest.
Who it is for
Owner-occupiers of existing homes, and private landlords borrowing personally. The published rules set no income thresholds and no minimum EPC requirement; lenders run their normal credit and affordability checks.
How the discount works
Government pays participating lenders a grant of up to 20% of the loan, which must be passed to you as a lower interest rate, on terms of three years or more. Each lender sets its own rates, so there is no single headline rate to quote yet.
What it can fund
Published per-technology caps: solar PV up to £15,000, battery storage up to £15,000, air-to-water heat pumps up to £20,000 and ground source up to £35,000. EV chargers can be included with a solar or battery install. Insulation is not loan-fundable under this scheme.
It stacks with the heat pump grant
The rules are written so a loan can sit on top of the £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant in England and Wales, financing the remainder of a heat pump installation, subject to final approval of combined funding.

Already on a lower income, in England?
The Warm Homes: Local Grant is live now: council-delivered upgrades including insulation, solar and air source heat pumps for eligible households (typically income under £36,000 and EPC D to G), at no upfront cost. Checked 3 August 2026.
