Octopus EnergyIntelligent Octopus Flux is closed to most new customers - here is what replaces it
Checked directly against Octopus's own page today, Intelligent Octopus Flux carries a closed banner for most new sign-ups. Here is exactly what it says, who still qualifies, and what a solar-and-battery household can join instead.
Status, checked 25 September 2026: currently closed to most new customers - see below.

What Intelligent Octopus Flux is
Intelligent Octopus Flux is the automated sibling of Octopus Flux. Both price import and export on the same three daily bands - a cheap overnight band, a standard band, and a peak evening band - but where standard Flux leaves you or your battery's own app to decide when to charge and discharge, Intelligent Octopus Flux lets Octopus control a compatible battery directly, charging and discharging it against the bands automatically.
The trade-off for handing over control is meant to be a slightly better cheap-band import rate than standard Flux, plus not having to think about it. The catch, as of today's check, is availability: the tariff is not currently open in the way standard Flux is.
The rate, as checked today
- Cheap band, around 02:00-05:00 - typically priced a little below standard Flux's cheap band
- Standard band, the rest of the day outside the two bands above - the middle rate
- Peak band, around 16:00-19:00 - the highest rate of the day for both import and export
As with standard Flux, Octopus publishes no single UK-wide pence figure for Intelligent Octopus Flux; rates are shown by postcode on Octopus's own tariff page. We have not repeated a third-party estimate here.

Who can get it
- At the time of writing, exclusivity to customers who purchased their solar panels and battery directly from Octopus Energy
- A compatible smart battery, from Octopus's own named list: AlphaESS, Ecoflow, Enphase, Fox ESS, GivEnergy, Hanchu ESS, Huawei, Sigenergy, SolarEdge or SunPower
- An Export MPAN, which Octopus can apply for if the property doesn't already have one
- A smart meter on the UK smart meter network
- Everything standard Flux also requires: solar panels, MCS documentation, and Octopus as the customer's import and export supplier
Who it suits: In normal times, this tariff suits a solar-and-battery household that wants Octopus to handle the day-to-day charge and discharge decisions automatically rather than doing it manually on standard Flux. While it remains restricted, it suits existing Octopus-installed customers specifically.
Does this pair with a Clearline installation?
Not currently. Because Octopus's own page ties Intelligent Octopus Flux to solar and a battery bought directly from Octopus at the time of writing, a system our teams install is not the route onto this specific tariff today. Standard Octopus Flux, which does not carry that condition, is the open alternative below.
Every installation is carried out by our teams, who hold:
How Intelligent Flux pairs with each route
Solar
Required, exactly as for standard Flux.
Battery
Required, and the entire point of the 'intelligent' half of the name: a compatible battery from Octopus's named list is what Octopus's own systems actually control.
EV charging
No dedicated EV scheduling; an EV charged in the cheap overnight band still benefits from the cheap rate, but a household charging regularly may prefer a dedicated EV tariff alongside whichever Flux product it ends up on.
Heat pump
Not purpose-built for a heat pump's schedule; compare against Octopus Cosy if heating, not solar export, is the main driver for the household.
Worked example
Because a Clearline installation cannot currently reach Intelligent Octopus Flux (see 'Who can get it' above), we have not built a payback table for it here. The worked example on the standard Octopus Flux page uses the same illustrative method and applies to the open alternative.

Octopus Energy Intelligent Flux questions, answered
Is Intelligent Octopus Flux still available?
Not in the way it was designed to be. Checked directly against Octopus's own page today, the tariff carries a banner describing it as temporarily unavailable due to volatile energy prices, and at the time of writing it is exclusive to customers whose solar and battery were bought directly from Octopus Energy.
Why is Intelligent Octopus Flux closed?
Octopus's own wording points to volatile energy prices as the reason it has restricted the tariff, rather than stating a permanent closure or a fixed reopening date. Separate trade reporting has described the tariff as closed to new joiners since around March 2026, with existing customers kept on it - broadly consistent with what we read today.
What is the difference between Flux and Intelligent Octopus Flux?
The three-band pricing structure is the same. Standard Flux leaves charge and discharge decisions to you or your battery's own app. Intelligent Octopus Flux automates those decisions, in exchange for currently being restricted to customers whose solar and battery were installed directly by Octopus.
What can I join instead if I want a solar-and-battery tariff today?
Standard Octopus Flux is open to new customers, checked today, and does not carry the direct-install condition. It uses the same three-band shape; you or your battery's app manage the charge and discharge timing yourself.
Can a Clearline installation qualify for Intelligent Octopus Flux?
Not at the time of writing. Because the tariff is currently tied to solar and a battery bought directly from Octopus, a system our teams install is not the route onto it today. Standard Flux does not carry that restriction.
Will Intelligent Octopus Flux reopen?
Octopus's own page implies it will, framing the restriction as temporary and tied to current price volatility rather than a permanent decision, but gives no fixed reopening date. We check the live status on every build and will update this page when it changes.
